Moderators

Moderators plays a key role in the moderation of our Technical Qualifications for 14-19 year olds. They were designed with employers and providers to deliver the most up-to-date relevant technical skills.

  • Role requirements

      As a Moderator you will:

      • Moderate centre marking - conduct and document moderation, quality assurance and advisory activities with centres, in line with quality assurance guidelines for Technicals
      • Provide advice and guidance to centres: on moderation and marking of the internally assessed, externally moderated / validated assessments and Employer Involvement
      • Produce City & Guilds and centre reports and feedback on: quality of marking / assessment, collection of evidence, issues identified through the moderation process, best practice
      • Participate in training and standardisation activities to ensure continued improvement and consistent performance as a moderator
  • About you

      We would like to hear from you if you have the following:

      • Industry specific qualifications up to level 3
      • Teaching experience with a large provider with track record of success
      • Up to date, occupational industry experience
      • Experience moderating or marking the qualification concerned (or similar)
      • Proficient IT skills with experience of using key business software e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel
      • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders both verbally and in writing
      • Experience of producing published reports and training / guidance material
      • Availability to attend or manage key activities throughout the year – especially October, November, December, March, April, May, June
      • Availability to carry out centre visit during the autumn, spring and summer terms. The number of visits will vary and could be up to 7-10 days during term time.
      • Up to date experience in the following activities: teaching /training, assessing / marking at the level of work to be moderated

  • What we offer

      We currently have some exciting vacancies for the role of Moderator for our Technical qualifications.  This is an excellent CPD opportunity, giving you the chance to learn about the City & Guilds Technicals, gain an in-depth knowledge of requirements and the moderation process and really get to grips with the marking of the synoptic practical assessment. 

      Support for Moderators

      • We provide Moderators with training and support throughout the year
      • Each team of Moderators is supported by a Principal Moderator and, in some cases, Lead Moderators
      • We provide detailed handbooks to support and guide you through the role and activities across the year
      • Support is available by telephone and email from our dedicated Technicals & Moderation Support team 
      • The annual standardisation meeting will support Moderators in making accurate judgments
